If you could vote for one policy what would it be?
‘Legalise cannabis.’
Andy – JSH

‘Youth homelessness... and more help for drug addicts, i.e. rehabs and that... A lot of people think, “Ah well, they got themselves into this mess, let them get themself out of it,” know what I mean... Drug addiction is a disease. People don’t deliberately go out and say, “I’m going to become a smack addict,” it just happens through a series of events.’
Steve – CCI

‘Freedom for everyone from oppression, fear, militarism.’
Jo – FPC

‘There’s an interesting thought. First thing that springs to mind is to abolish the monarchy. Because I feel they do nothing but leech off this country... I would increase the standard of living for people. The minimum wage of £3.00 an hour is rubbish. I would want to make it a standard £7.00 an hour as that is the European decency rate.’
Scott – JSH

‘About the college and students and stuff. Student fees should be abolished, yeah. Because, it’s hard enough for a student to pay for their rent or whatever, on top of that £2,000 for the course. I don’t think it’s fair.’
Tracey – CCI

‘Nuclear weapons. I could get rid of them in one go, plain and simple.’
Craig – FPC

‘See like that minimum wage, that was a good thing, that’s a good idea. But see, it should be easier... They should do something for like sixteen and seventeen year olds, you know what I mean, because they have got a say in it and all. They’ve left school, so give them more of a say than what they’re already getting.’
Tony – CCI

‘More co–operatives, small bases of society where people would have their hands on in the decision making for their own local community. Because then everybody’s included, they’re not voting in people who make decisions on their behalf. Instead they’re being directly involved in making the decisions. People should be involved in making the decisions.’
Hoosie – FPC

‘Better education, and things for the elderly because they live on nothing really. And better accommodation for homeless people, and places like this... They should have a policy to go round and take a look at the hostels and clean them up. It’s depressing. This is one of the best. So if they make a policy to do that, and they did it, I’d feel that my vote’s worked... and I’d be proud that they did it... Just to get them more money and get us better places to stay, and get more hostels so there isn’t people on the street, because there is a lot of people that sleep on the streets in Glasgow and all over Scotland… And put a bit of urgency into it, instead of waiting two or three years until they do it... I really would appreciate it if they dealt with that. So that’s basically it. I’d like a lot more support for the homeless and the elderly.’
John – JSH

‘I’d like to see a traveller in Parliament. If there was somebody who could help travellers make sites... Let them live the lives they’ve always lived, and don’t have to put them in a house... I think there should be better facilities for travelling people; they should make an education centre just for travelling people, travelling children’s activities, like a play-bus coming on to the camps and bringing things for the weans to play with.’
Claire – LTS

‘Power makes people corrupt... it goes to the head. It’d go to my head. If I was in government, do you know what I’d honestly do right... see the Queen, off she goes... No more Queen, no more wasting money on her... people’s tax money. All the Pakis, get out the country. All the Chinese, keep a few for the shops that the Chinese rent, a couple of Chinese restaurants and a couple of Indian restaurants in every street in every town.’
Dave – CCI

‘I don’t think you should pay for an education, because education’s something that you need, and if you didn’t have that, where would you be? So I think that’s the main issue... Definetly. I mean I’ve looked at loads of courses, and I am quite put off by that, because of the fact that I need to pay for those courses. I mean, where will I get the money from? I’m unemployed, I get a giro fortnightly, £70-odd. Plus the fact that you need to pay rent if you’re at college, plus you’re paying for that course. I mean they’ve got money coming out their ears and they’re wanting more money out of us,
just to get educated.’
Maggie – JSH

‘An end to oppression and exploitation which basically incorporates everything I believe in; like exploitation of people, animals and the environment. Exploitation I think is what ultimately leads to oppression.’
Katey – FPC

‘I think the main one would be education, that would be the right one. Because I’m thinking about me, right. I’ll be wanting an education when I leave here. I want to go to college and that, hopefully university, and I’ve got no qualifications at all, know what I mean? So I need to think about that if I’ve got a wean and that kind of thing... We all need our second chances and that.’
Euan – PYOI
