Would you ever spoil a ballot paper?
‘Yes, if you spoil a ballot, especially if you write something on it that’s like sort of political, then you’re saying that you don’t agree with the system... A lot of people don’t vote simply out of apathy, laziness, or just don’t care.’
Katey – FPC

‘Well, I’d need to sit down and look at all their policies I think, before I could do anything like that.’
Tracey – CCI

‘Yes... my grandma was like involved with the suffragettes and stuff, and like, you know, we still do have the right to vote even though it doesn’t mean anything. I think it’s kind of an important thing to remember that people fought for that right, especially for women. Like, you know, it’s only this century that women have actually been allowed to vote, it seems a bit ungrateful not to. So what I would do would go in and spoil the paper, probably.’
Jo – FPC

‘It’s a waste of time, really isn’t it? I wouldn’t even go to any of the voting booths.’
Maggie – JSH

‘Not really. I don’t vote because I don’t think it would do anything for me, and even if I done a protest it wouldn’t make them do something for me.’
Nisha – LTS

‘No, I wouldn’t bother with that, no... I don’t know anyone that spoils it. If people want to vote they shouldn’t turn up and do that, because that is wasting a vote basically. If they don’t like anyone, they shouldn’t vote.’
John – JSH

‘I wouldn’t do that, I don’t see any point... But maybe if about 52,000 people did it.’
Steve – CCI

‘Well, if I did vote I’d rather spoil a ballot paper. I mean I’ve been thinking of maybe doing that; get on the electoral roll just for the sake of spoiling ballot papers... They’ve got to read all the spoiled ballot papers and they’d start thinking if there are people that spoil their ballot papers in the same way, the same slogan, then there’s going to be all these votes that are going to be void, but they’re all void for the same reason.’
Hoosie – FPC
