of plastic litter bin, enlarged to actual size and placed in a
shop display cabinet next to the original object. This work intended
to create a double-take effect which would attract attention to
an everyday functional object which on the one hand reminds passersby
of the continued existence of the waste contained within, whilst
with its location in an advertising display window, could be interpreted
as an advert which - in connection with the works concerning homelessness
and the sale of recycled materials at informal street markets
(see Market Aesthetics 1 & 2, 1996) - ironically promotes a potential use value to those who
can make use or some small profit from the recycled waste of others.
